How Recycling One Item Can Make a Difference for Future Generations

Can just donating one preloved piece of clothing, really make a big difference for future generations to come?

The simple answer is YES, and since April is earth month, we’re especially excited to bring you an exciting opportunity in partnership with Kidizen, to donate your gently-used clothes and shoes from participating REWEAR® brands, including Nui Organics, to help support our mission for a healthy planet, and also receive some extra bonuses along the way!

The Rewear Challenge is an annual event put on by Kidizen, to give an opportunity for families to clear space in your children’s closets in support of the planet.

Kidizen was started in 2014 by two parents, Mary Fallon and Dori Graff, to reduce waste by extending the lives of children's products through reuse.

Today, Kidizen works with 14 sustainable children’s brands, including Nui, as a platform to help sustainable brands recycle preloved clothing.

For this special challenge, Kidizen partnered with Children’s Environmental Literacy Foundation (CERF), to support their work in preparing students to be active and responsible citizens of a sustainable world. CELF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2003 with the mission of making Education for Sustainability (EfS) an integral part of K-12 school curricula and culture to prepare current and future students to be active and responsible citizens of a sustainable world. For their involvement, they will receive all proceeds after fees and shipping costs are deducted from the sales of the donated items.

Participating in the challenge is easy. You can donate any item that is in rewearable condition, from one of the participating brands. This means that there should be no holes, stains, or excessive wear in the garment.

Just package your donation item(s) up (we encourage you to reuse packaging materials you have from shipments you’ve previously received (you can even use your biodegradable Nui shipping bags.)

Fill out the donation form here, and Kidizen will send you a postmarked shipping label.

And that’s it! For your donation, you will also receive a 20% discount code for any Nui purchase.

The average consumer throws away 70 pounds of clothing per year. Globally we produce 13 million tons of textile waste each year 95% of which could be reused or recycled.

Which begs the question, do we really need more new clothes?

That’s why at Nui, we work hard to bring you high quality products designed to last, made from natural materials and produced in sustainable ways. As such, there is plenty of life left in a Nui garment long after you are done with it, and it can be passed on for a second life with another family..

And that’s why we have our Rewear clothing program year round. The program was created in partnership with Kidizen to help you say no to disposable fashion AND get a return on your investment when your children are done with their clothes.

Nui garments maintain their high quality, even after years of washing and wearing, so the average resale value is $10-$40.

Everyday we make choices in our lives that affect the environment, the climate and all living things. From what we eat and wear, to how we spend our days, and the brands we choose to support.

At Nui, we believe shoppers should demand more for your dollars. Because with every dollar you spend, you are voting for the type of world you want to live in.

The mark of a good brand is one that aligns with your personal values, made to last, and encourages sustainability and closing the loop on wastefulness and pollution.

We hope that you will join us this month, and participate in the Rewear challenge. While it seems like a small act in terms of helping the environment, it’s every little thing we each do, that will create a lasting big impact for our future generations.
